Key points for the maintenance and care of lifting slings

In the area of metal lifting equipment, wire ropes require regular lubrication. Use a specialized wire rope grease, applying it evenly to the rope’s surface to allow deep penetration, which helps reduce friction and wear between individual wires while also preventing rust and corrosion. During inspections, carefully check for issues such as broken wires, excessive wear, rust, or deformation. If wear reaches a certain percentage of the rope’s diameter, replace it immediately. For chain slings, regularly clean the chain surfaces to remove dirt and debris, ensuring no particles get lodged between the links, which could interfere with smooth operation. Perform non-destructive testing on the chains to identify any cracks or other defects. If the chain shows signs of elongation beyond the specified limits, adjust or replace it promptly. Synthetic fiber slings must never be exposed to direct sunlight, as prolonged UV exposure accelerates material degradation, significantly reducing their strength over time. After use, rinse the slings thoroughly with clean water and allow them to air-dry naturally—avoiding contact with organic solvents, acids, or alkaline substances to prevent corrosion. When storing, hang the slings or lay them flat in a dry, well-ventilated area, keeping them away from heat sources.
